POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director Engineering, the Software Architect will be responsible for owning and leading the design, development, and sustaining efforts for the software application suite. This is a key role requiring full-stack development understanding, knowledge of design patterns, and software engineering practices. This individual will guide and direct the efforts of local and remote hybrid development teams.

 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a software team’s efforts to successfully complete sonar software development and sustaining projects on time and target.
  • Collaborate with product managers and other relevant stakeholders to define software requirements, ensure accurate representation of product features and functionality, and make sure deadlines are met.
  • Provide architectural design, roadmap, and technical leadership to development teams.
  • Stay up to date with current and new technologies including AI and propose solutions to meet the company’s future technology direction.
  • Develop system architectures based on scalable design and coding patterns.
  • Design, code, test, debug, and document high quality sonar software.
  • Work within the group to continuously improve the software development processes.
  • Identify and incorporate new technologies consistent with company goals.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • A University degree in Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant discipline, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • 4+ years of software team tech leadership experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in software design and development.
  • Full stack experience ranging from embedded firmware to desktop software.
  • Expert in C++ and object-oriented design.
  • Combination of the following:
    • Software system architecture and design
    • Ethernet/Sockets programming e.g., TCP/IP protocols
    • Multi-threaded programming
    • Operating systems (Windows, Linux, FreeRTOS), Realtime systems
    • GUI design and development
    • Signal and image processing
    • Microsoft .Net framework, C#, WPF
    • Agile processes and methodologies
    • System integration and test
    • Git or similar repositories
    • TFS or similar
    • MATLAB
  • Experience acting as a liaison between departments internally, externally, and with management.
  • Experience working with remote software development teams.
  • High level of energy, enthusiasm, and optimism, as well as a sense of urgency and passion for excellence.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and to adapt to priority changes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of electronic assemblies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Strong training, coaching and mentoring skills.
