Commercial Officer – Procurement (1 year contract)

Kongsberg Maritime is a business that operates on a global basis to offer both products and services to customers across the Marine industry. The organisation is developing its strategy to purchase services and products through Global Purchasing.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the commercial team to support Procurement, reporting to the Commercial Executive, you will provide commercial expertise within a multi-national team serving a wide range of international suppliers.

Key responsibilities: 

  • Improve existing templates for Global Purchasing, which cover both the business expectations as well as the local requirements.
  • Provide specialist contractual advice to the Divisions in order to ensure that business agreements (such as Supply Agreements) are negotiated, executed and implemented in line with the business requirements and financial returns, that exposure to risk is minimised and mitigated appropriately at each stage and to ensure compliance with company policy, processes and legal requirements.
  • Drive and deliver continuous functional and corporate improvement initiatives in their areas of expertise and to lead and/or participate in wider change initiatives.
  • Create, develop and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, guidelines and contracting infrastructures that meet corporate governance and Commercial and Purchasing functional requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and share Commercial best practice
  • Interface with specialist departments within the company to obtain advice and guidance. Evaluate such advice and thereafter develop pragmatic solutions to complex, multi-dimensional issues to meet the business requirements.
  • Produce or provide input to innovative proposals to secure profitable and/or strategic business for the company.
  • Identify potential risks and liabilities inherent in tenders and contracts, propose and negotiate amendments to minimise or mitigate same, using judgement in balancing commercial/legal considerations against the requirements of the Marine sector, to secure conformity with Commercial policies and procedures.
  • Instruct and (where appropriate) administer new and existing business agreements and manage/negotiate resolution of claims, disputes and litigation in order to minimise cost and risk to the Company.
  • Provide advice as required on the flow down of head contract terms and conditions to the supply chain.


  • Higher Education (degree of Law or Business or equivalent or suitable experience in negotiating contracts)
  • Fluent in English and ideally speaking Norwegian or another European language
  • Excellent interpersonal and organization skills
  • Track record of complex negotiations within demanding timescales
  • Experience of influencing based on functional responsibility rather than line authority, and at senior levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated track record of meeting personal objectives
  • Track record of promoting and sharing best practice
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel to the local Kongsberg Maritime sites and work in different European cultures
