Searching for an exciting position in the marine industry to utilise your passion in hydrodynamics?

Kongsberg Maritime is currently looking for a solution driven Hydrodynamicist, to join our experienced Propulsion Hydrodynamics team in the Kongsberg Hydrodynamic Research Centre (KHRC) based in Kristinehamn, Sweden.  The KHRC is one of the world’s leading marine hydrodynamic research facilities, specializing in the development of marine propulsion systems including the design and testing of propellers, rudders, thrusters and waterjets.

Our Hydrodynamicist position offers a unique opportunity to work with design, prediction and methods development for our market-leading waterjet products. You will use your in-depth hydrodynamic knowledge in quality investigations, as well as project lead for in-house model tests and full-scale measurement activities in this role. You will also contribute to our sales organisation, where you transform customers’ requirements into efficient hydrodynamic design solutions and performance is balanced in accordance with customers' expectations. You may also be required to deliver general hydrodynamic training within the company and provide technical support to Sales, with methods and tools, on an as needs basis.

By testing and evaluating technical solutions in our on-site cavitation tunnels, we have a unique opportunity to deliver cutting edge solutions to our customers. As a Hydrodynamicist, you will ensure the quality of your work is exemplary and actively work to continuously improve the group’s methods and processes.

Qualifications and experience

To best fulfill the position needs and make this a perfect fit, you will have a master’s degree in engineering, preferably in Naval Architecture, Marine or Mechanical engineering, Technical Physics, Applied Mathematics or another relevant field with a solid understanding of fluid principles. Experience working with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and/or Hydroacoustics, while not essential, is highly advantageous.

To succeed in this role, you are a team player with a collaborative attitude and ability to communicate in a clear and structured way. You have a proactive approach and are prepared to act on your own initiative. You can analyze complex issues and problems and come up with rational judgments. You are systematic in your approach, planning and setting clear priorities for your work while keeping focused on the pursuit of team goals.

Regular communication with both international customers and colleagues is a big part of this role, therefore a high level of both oral and written English is necessary. Fluency in additional languages is advantageous.
