Director Product Safety

As member of our Technology office management team, you will play a pivotal role in embedding Product safety in our ways of working through the product lifecycle phases from development to operation, and to continuously strengthen our Product safety culture.
As Director of Product Safety you are responsible for driving the development and implementation of Product Safety strategies, methods and activities with the purpose to meet the commitments stated in our Product Safety policy; we deliver and maintain acceptably safe products with risk As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP). The underlaying purpose is that our products shall not cause harm to people, environment.
Additionally, you are responsible for promoting and assuring Product safety through close collaboration and cross-functional alignment in Kongsberg Maritime. You will ensure effective communication and engagement both internally and externally. The role also supports continuous strengthening of Product safety in our sister company Kongsberg Discovery.
As Director of Product Safety at Kongsberg Maritime, your key accountabilities will include:
- Develop and maintain effective Product Safety processes in the Business Management System (BMS)
- Champion adherence to BMS processes, coach Product Safety culture and grow competence
- Responsible for the Product safety governance process in Kongsberg Maritime
- Oversee Product safety risks and status of Kongsberg Maritime products
- Develop, maintain, and communicate Product Safety strategy
- Authorize closure of critical product incidents. Support incident resolution progress and closure strategies, including application of the ALARP method.
- Continuous improvement of Product safety with respect to technology, product, and process
- Develop and maintain Product Safety training material
- Support and coordinate the Division Product Safety leads
Qualifications and experience
- BSc or MSc degree within engineering or science and/or relevant experience in industry
- Experience with one or more design analyses methods (e.g., xFMECA, Hazid, Hazop, RAMS) and structured problem-solving methods (e.g., 8D, Fishbone diagram)
- Strong business acumen to make sound Product safety and Business prioritization
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to foster a strong Product Safety culture, close collaboration and cross-functional alignment across organizational boundaries
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present complex information clearly. Effective interpersonal communication.
- Extensive Customer and market understanding, identifying trends and future opportunities.
