Field Service Engineer - Cargo
The Field Service Engineer – Cargo is responsible for the installation, commissioning, service, and maintenance of Kongsberg Maritime’s K‑Gauge Tank Level Gauging Systems and Custody Transfer Systems (CTS) on LNG and LPG carriers and other commercial vessels. The role supports both onboard field work and global remote technical assistance to ensure accurate, reliable cargo measurement operations and strong customer support.
Key responsibilities:
- Install and commission K‑Gauge tank level monitoring equipment and associated instrumentation.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on K‑Gauge and CTS systems onboard vessels and in shipyards.
- Replace or adjust sensors, transmitters, cabling, operator panels, computers, or other system components as required.
- Restore systems to operational readiness after equipment faults, component failures, or configuration issues.
- Provide remote and in-office technical assistance to customers and internal teams.
- Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters, pressure gauges, and software utilities to identify communication, signal, or loop issues.
- Troubleshoot serial communication, network links, I/O channels, and instrument wiring.
- Support integration activities between cargo monitoring systems and vessel automation platforms (including K‑Chief 600/700 as applicable to cargo monitoring interfaces).
- Read and interpret drawings, wiring diagrams, system architecture documents, and technical manuals.
- Update as-built documentation following service activities or system adjustments.
- Assist with minor configuration changes and documentation updates as needed.
- Prepare accurate service reports, timesheets, and expense submissions after each assignment.
- Follow company safety procedures, customer site requirements, and documentation standards.
- Perform work in accordance with Kongsberg Maritime quality expectations and service processes.
- Participate in required training and product familiarization programs.
- Willingness and ability to travel 50–70%, both domestically and internationally, sometimes on short notice.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related engineering field (or equivalent technical/military engineering training).
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in field service, commissioning, instrumentation/service support, marine systems, industrial controls, or related technical environments (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Strong fundamental understanding of electrical/electronic measurement systems, instrumentation, and troubleshooting methods.
- Proficient in English (oral and written).
- Ability and willingness to travel globally up to 50–70%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working onboard vessels, in shipyards, or industrial environments supporting instrumentation and measurement systems.
- Familiarity with marine automation environments and system interfaces.

Work Environment

Combination of onboard assignments, office-based support, and remote technical assistance; may involve climbing, confined spaces, and extended periods offshore or at sea.
