Field Service Engineer - ICS
The Field Service Engineer – ICS provides technical service, troubleshooting, commissioning, and maintenance support for Kongsberg Maritime’s Integrated Control System portfolio. The role ensures safe, reliable, and compliant operation of marine automation systems onboard vessels and contributes to product quality, customer satisfaction, and lifecycle support.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on Kongsberg Integrated Control Systems, including Power Management Systems (PMS), Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD), Fire & Gas Systems, Gas Management Systems, and related automation platforms.
- Provide remote support via phone, email, and digital diagnostic tools.
- Conduct onboard troubleshooting, fault analysis, system adjustments, and functional testing.
- Read, interpret, and update engineering drawings, system architectures, I/O lists, and technical documentation.
- Produce accurate service reports, timesheets, and expense submissions following each assignment.
- Update and maintain as-built documentation following system changes or upgrades.
- Perform parameter tuning, software adjustments, and limited control logic modifications as required by service tasks.
- Utilize engineering tools (multimeters, configuration software, communication analyzers) to identify and resolve issues.
- Interface directly with vessel crew, shipyards, technical superintendents, and internal engineering groups.
- Provide feedback to product teams and suggest system or process improvements.
- Support Sales and Key Account Managers by identifying upgrade opportunities or technical needs onboard.
- Follow company safety procedures, quality standards, and documentation requirements.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with marine industry regulations and applicable class requirements.
- Willingness and ability to travel 50–70%, both domestically and internationally, sometimes on short notice and including occasional weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related engineering field (or equivalent technical/military engineering training).
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in field service, commissioning, marine automation, industrial controls, or related technical environments (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Working knowledge of automation and control systems (PID control, communication protocols, industrial electronics).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and system schematics.
- Experience troubleshooting low-voltage control circuits and using diagnostic tools (multimeters, software tools, etc.).
- Strong communication skills; fluent in English.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure in onboard/industrial environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with marine automation systems and integrated vessel control architectures.
- Experience modifying PLC logic or system configurations.
- Knowledge of marine/industrial communication protocols (Profibus, Modbus, TCP/IP, CANbus).

Work Environment
