Missile Systems is a division of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, and our main products are anti-ship missiles. We develop and supply missiles for vessels, coastal artillery, helicopters and fighter aircraft. Remote Tower Systems for remote control of control towers at airports is also one of our products. We have a large number of assignments related to the development and delivery of the Naval Strike Missile (NSM), Joint Strike Missile (JSM) and Super Sonic Strike Missile (3SM). 

Senior Engineer, Composites  

We are seeking an experienced engineer to join Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace in support of missile structural design and development. The ideal candidate will apply engineering and physical science principles to design, integrate, document, and evaluate missile structures and associated equipment for performance, cost-effectiveness, manufacturability, and regulatory compliance. 

Your responsibilities 

Conduct and oversee engineering tasks primarily related to composite materials and structures, including analysis, design work, testing, postprocessing experimental results and writing reports. 

Collaborate closely with the research & development teams and the manufacturing engineers to optimise material usage, and structural integrity. Design for robust and cost-effective manufacturing, integration within complex systems. 

Involved in the certification and verification processes for our composite products, ensuring they meet customer requirements as well as industry and regulatory standards. 

Building further competence in this field. Develop and maintain networks internally and externally, keep up to date with new developments, and make these available to other cross sections of the company as required. 

Cooperate with customers, suppliers and industry networks to implement new solutions.  

Your background 

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, preferably with a focus on composites or structural mechanics. 

Relevant experience would be an advantage, particularly in the fields of design, analysis, testing and manufacturing of composite materials and structures. 

Proficiency in related design and analysis tools. Familiarity with composites manufacturing methods, and the associated tooling packages. 

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with high proficiency in English. 

It would also be beneficial with knowledge of adhesives, polymers, elastomers and other materials.
