An exciting opportunity has opened up for a Commercial Manager, reporting to Vice President Commercial & Contracting, in our Propulsion & Handling team.

In this role, you will be a part of a collaborative team supporting customers and colleagues across the globe in our Commercial and Naval Segments. As a key member of the Commercial & Contracting function in Kongsberg Maritime, you will provide strategic commercial advice, negotiate and draft agreements, and help shape the future of sustainable maritime solutions.

What you will be doing

  • Shape and support commercial deal structures for new sales initiatives across the Propulsion & Handling portfolio, ensuring alignment between sales price, scope of work, and contractual terms. This includes both standard and bespoke agreements globally, with a particular advantage for candidates experienced in Naval/Defence contracting.
  • Advise, negotiate, and draft commercial terms and conditions, applying sound judgement to balance commercial opportunity,  risk, and business objectives. You will play a key role in structuring deals together with our Sales teams that are both competitive and compliant with corporate policies.
  • Drive commercial resolution of claims, disputes, and litigation, working closely with our delivery organization, corporate legal and insurance teams to protect the company’s interests while maintaining customer relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies on adviser use, anti-bribery, and export control, embedding these principles into deal execution and contract management.
  • Coordinate with Treasury to secure appropriate financial instruments such as bank guarantees and other payment securities (for example Letter of Credit), ensuring commercial risk is mitigated.

Promote commercial acumen across the Propulsion & Handling division by delivering training and guidance to sales and project teams, with a focus on deal shaping, risk awareness, and value-based contracting.

We think you should have

  • Educated to minimum bachelor’s or preferably to master’s level or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as law, finance or business administration.
  • Experience in advising, negotiating, and drafting complex international commercial contracts within demanding timescales.
  • Relevant experience in managing pre and/post signature commercial contracts.
  • Experience in working a matrix organization, managing stakeholder relationships.

We also welcome applicants who are earlier in their commercial careers.
If you bring strong analytical thinking with a bachelor’s or preferably to master’s in law, finance or business administration, a collaborative mindset, and a desire to grow into a commercial leadership role, we’d love to hear from you. You may not yet have extensive experience in contract negotiation or defence-related work, but if you're eager to learn and contribute to shaping complex deals, we’ll support your development through mentoring and hands-on exposure across our Propulsion & Handling portfolio.

This employment requires security clearance by the Norwegian National Security Authority. The successful candidate may start work with limited access whilst the clearance is being processed. Please note  this might affect the offer process or employment.

The role will be located in Ålesund region, however for the right candidate one of our Kongsberg Maritime locations in Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom or Finland can be considered.
