
Project Engineer (Electrical)

The AE&S Department in Kongsberg Maritime is responsible for deliveries of EIT system solutions (Electrical, Instrument & Control and Telecom) to the O&G and Offshore market, serving the yards and ship owners globally.
Electrical Engineer under direction of Operational manager AE&S Project Team of Kongsberg Maritime, is responsible for the delivery of Offshore Marine full power systems including; power generation and distribution, protection, power conversion, energy storage, control and automation (PMS), ensuring the design meets customers’ contract and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
• B.E / M.E – Electrical
• Minimum 6 to 8 years’ experience in Electrical Design in Marine, Offshore / Oil & Gas field. Preference from the EPC company background.
• Experience in project designing with AutoCAD and MS Office (Word, Excel) is a must.
• Experience in specification, material requisition, and procurement of electrical equipment (generators, switchgear, drives, motors, thrusters, etc.).
• Familiar with international, codes and marine classification society rules as applicable IEC, IEEE, ANSI, NORSOK, DNV, LR, BV, IRS, ABS.
• Working experience in design engineering on conceptual studies, FEED, detailed engineering, & site support coordination during construction & commissioning phases of the project
• Relevant experience in engineering design, application, interface coordination, site testing, and commissioning in one or more of the following:
- Electrical power generation and distribution systems
- DP Class configuration for Electrical Systems
- LV / HV switchgear and transformer specification and application
- LV / HV synchronous generators and their associated control systems (AVRs, speed governors etc.)
- Induction and synchronous motors and control systems
- Propulsion / thruster variable speed drive systems and automation
- Energy storage battery unit, propagation, cooling, and Battery Management System
- Power system control and protection
- LV and HV variable speed drives and motors.
- Marine electrical power and propulsion systems.
- Power management systems (PMS) or SCADA systems and their associated interface
• An understanding and working knowledge of the electrical equipment installation in hazardous areas
• Experience in Control & Instrumentation design is an advantage.
Roles & Responsibilities:
• Deliver Marine Offshore / Oil & Gas electrical design solutions.
• Preparation of Single Line Diagrams, Block & Termination Diagrams.
• Prepare cable schedule.
• Preparation of specifications, material requisitions and procurement of electrical equipment’s like power generators, switchgear, drives, motors, thrusters, etc. for offshore vessels
• Power system studies such as:
- LV & MV Protection & Co-ordination;
- Voltage drop / dip calculations;
- Load flow and fault studies;
- Harmonic (VTHD) calculations;
- Arc flash and transient analysis
- HV & LV power system cabling (cable selection, rating etc.)
• Responsible for adherence to the QHMS requirements with respect to design and delivery of correct documentation (e.g. deliverables within budget, quality & planned timeframe).
• Carry out redline mark-ups on the final drawings and generation of As-Built documentation.
• The position allows decisions of solutions to achieve the projects goals together with lead engineer or senior project engineer
• These decisions have to be in accordance with the project and application engineers in product department
• At any time, it is important to act correctly to minimize negative deviation
Soft Skills
• Independent, with strong oral & written communication skills in English
• Must have excellent co-operative skills and result-oriented
• Must be self-motivated and able to motivate team members
