Mechanical Engineer - Poscom Department, Kongsberg Discovery

As part of our R&D PosCom department, you will contribute to the development of new and exciting products, as well as keeping our existing product portfolio at a competitive level. The PosCom department focuses on underwater positioning and communication systems, including deep-water transponders, hull mounted equipment and electronics consoles. Our products are used in several demanding underwater operations within research and energy worldwide. Our products consist of GUI, signal processing, sensor integration, electronics and mechanical modules.

Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our PosCom R&D team. You will contribute to the development of high-performance products for underwater acoustic communication and positioning systems. This includes both new product development and sustaining engineering for existing platforms. You will be joining a dedicated group of engineers developing products for positioning and communication during maritime operations, where you will be the mechanical designer of the product. You will work closely with people from other engineering disciplines to optimize the time to market for the product. You will join real life testing of the product onboard our research vessels in Horten.
In this role you will
- Develop innovative and robust solutions for the standard product range and delivery projects
- Technical responsibility in assigned projects
- Provide engineering services for sales and support
- Maintain existing products during their lifecycle
Qualification and experience
- BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Experience using CAD tools like Inventor and/or SolidWorks
- Experience using PLM tools (Teamcenter or similar)
- Understanding of FEM modeling
- Material technology knowledge is valuable
