Specialist Electrical Engineer
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Electrical Engineer within Kongsberg Maritime, Global Customer Support Thrusters. In this role, you will be a key technical authority within our Technical Support organization, supporting electrical rotating machinery used in thruster and hybrid propulsion solutions.
You will be part of the Technical Support & Engineering team in Ulsteinvik, Ålesund, Norway or Rauma, Finland, working closely with sales, engineering, service, workshops, and customers worldwide. The role bridges deep technical expertise with customer-facing support and lifecycle responsibility for critical propulsion equipment.
As a Specialist Electrical Engineer you will act as a subject matter expert, handling complex technical challenges, guiding colleagues, and contributing to continuous improvement of products, services, and engineering processes.

Key Accountabilities
- Act as primary technical specialist (SME) for rotating electrical machines, including induction motors, permanent magnet motors, and generators used in thruster and hybrid propulsion systems
- Provide advanced technical support, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis for complex customer and field issues
- Serve as technical responsible for assigned deliveries, reviews, and escalations within Global Customer Support
- Review, approve, and ensure quality of technical documentation and deliverables in accordance with product, project, and quality requirements
- Support technical sales activities, including evaluations, clarifications, and customer dialogues
- Contribute to lifecycle management of the electrical thruster and rotating machinery portfolio
- Support service readiness for new or modified products and solutions
- Share best practices and lessons learned across projects, teams, and functions
- Represent Global Customer Support in technical discussions with customers, shipyards, classification societies, and partners
- Drive initiatives to improve system performance, reliability, serviceability, and lifecycle cost
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or equivalent)
- Senior experience from relevant industry
- Strong technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
- Electrical rotating machines (induction motors, PM motors, generators)
- Electrical machines for marine or hybrid propulsion systems
- Electrical troubleshooting, diagnostics, and failure analysis
- Power electronics, drives, or marine electrical systems (low voltage and medium voltage systems)
- Podded thrusters
- Experience from the maritime industry is beneficial
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Norwegian/Finnish
