Kongsberg Maritime - Automation & Control

Developer / Senior Developer

We seek a developer to join our Sensing Solutions Technology team. Depending on your experience you will contribute to or be responsible for architecture, feature implementation, proof of concept development, and development methodology.

We deliver instrumentation, advanced sensors, systems, and services to a variety of maritime applications.  You will be working with one or more product teams, using several technology stacks, across several different domains. Going forward we will have a large focus on unifying our technology stack, architecture and working practices; work that you will become an important contributor to.

We do not expect that you have experience with all our tools and technologies, only that you are interested in learning and building great software that our users can rely on.

We have autonomous teams working on different products, making their own technical decisions. Our teams generally meet daily for stand-ups and coordination of the work. We program both alone and together in pairs so that we can learn from each other.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Your main responsibilities will cover many tasks, but not necessarily all those listed below, tailored to your experience, expertise, and interests.

  • Contribute to software architecture for our own products
  • Collaborating with your colleagues to develop high-quality working software, including adherence to the established architecture and practices
  • Contribute to exploring and implementing new technologies and methods
  • Front- and/or back-end design and development depending on your interests
  • Working together with product owners to prototype new functionality
  • Help our teams continuously improve how we work, ensuring we stay up to date on modern practices
  • Technical coordination and collaboration with our software cloud teams in Kongsberg Digital AS (Kognifai Digital Platform)

Education and skills

  • General programming experience and a willingness to learn is required. Some experience with more than one of the following languages would be an advantage: C#, C++, Typescript, Python
  • General understanding of different databases and types of data
  • Experience with both Windows and Linux platforms would be an advantage
  • We work with Azure DevOps, experience in this would be an advantage
  • Relevant technical university degree, e.g. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, ICT or other degrees that includes programming. Relevant experience may compensate for a formal degree.
  • 1-4 years of experience with software development, although recent graduates and more experienced candidates will also be considered.
  • Good English and Norwegian. Our everyday language is Norwegian, but as a part of an international company, with global customers, we write, read and speak English on a daily basis.

This employment may require security clearance by the Norwegian National Security Authority. For more information visit www.nsm.no.

 Personal Qualities

  • Proactive and solutions-oriented, sees opportunities instead of limitations
  • Passion for programming and development of new technology
  • Comfortable with moving between different technology stacks with different languages and ecosystems
