Principal Engineer Propulsion & Energy, R&D

To meet an exciting future, we are seeking a Principal Engineer within propulsion and energy to develop marine robotics for the future. We develop and manufacture complete Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) systems, integrated with a huge range of sensors and related control systems. Equipped with advanced control systems and sensors our vehicles can operate alone for days at a time, gathering information about the seafloor and underwater infrastructure. Our products HUGIN and HUGIN Superior are recognized as the most successful and capable AUVs available today, and our customer are within defense, commercial and research.

You will be part of a dedicated team of R&D engineers that is responsible for all electronics within the vehicle and the top side system.  In your daily work you will contribute in multidisciplinary teams, and be involved in the whole product value chain; from requirement & concept phase, to turn key ready systems, as well as participate in iterative design improvements to existing vehicles.

Our department has a dedicated development lab, test facilities, and ships to conduct experimental testing, and verifications of complete system deliveries to our customers. While making deliveries in a hectic environment, you will also be encouraged to experimenting and exploring new possibilities.

Key accountabilities

  • Act as the technical expert on propulsion and energy for our AUVs
  • Drive the evaluation and selection of propulsion and energy system into the broader vehicle design
  • Plan test programs and analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets requirements specifications
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements within propulsion and energy systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver state-of-the-art solutions
  • Continuously improve system efficiency and reliability, by identifying and implementing innovative solutions, best practices and process improvements
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical teams
  • Partner with suppliers, leading technical discussions, negotiating specifications, and ensuring performance

 

Qualifications and experience

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Extensive hands-on experience within DC motor, actuators and battery technology design and development, preferably underwater domain
  • Deep knowledge of propulsions systems and power electronics
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and team collaboration abilities
  • Fluency in English and Norwegian, both verbal and in writing
